New Beginnings

The internet hates websites nowadays. Users expects all of internet consumptions to be instantaneous, brief, and in one place if not two. On the other hands, creators find the mainstream platforms are a tad limiting, creators feel restricted to broadcast their ideas on a limited digital canvas filled with rules and regulations, and most of the content is under the mercy of algorithms.

I tried to use Twitter and Instagram as means of personal expressions, but I find myself adapting my content to be algorithm friendly rather than creating something original and meaningful, at least to me.

I’ve looked for platforms to host my content and creations, such as substack. But I can’t contribute to something that is against my values. A walled garden filled with bullshit content (mostly) that is aiming to cultivate subscriptions as much as possible. Substack is following the same grave mistake Medium did.

I’m all in for an open internet, accessible content, and the freedom of choice. The internet is a perfect medium for a limitless creativity, why are we limiting ourselves within those platforms?

Yes, I do agree that such platforms do bring value to the society, but I don’t believe that we should restrict our internet browsing to those platforms. At least, in my personal circumstances, I believe that we should aim higher, and create more spaces for freedom and creativity.

I’ve redesigned my website under the following principals:

  • A journal to host my writings and daily life (blog).
  • An open canvas that stretch itself to multiple media such as visual essays, artworks, and music.

To be able to do that, I’m using Jekyll as a software to render the content, hosted in Github repo, and I’ve designed multiple layouts for a variety of purposes.

Now, I have to create a CMS to manage and publish the content, because my means to edit and publish updates to the website is basically VS Code and Terminal.

Until then, I look forward to share more content and silly ideas in a beautiful open internet.
